Dress: Pink Peacock

My first dress design, I created the Pink Peacock in 2004. Dress, shall, and purse are all original patterns and designs.
While brain-storming for this piece, my attention to texture challenged me to recreate the texture of rose petals. Through experimentation, I noticed that synthetic fabrics like polyester melt easily and create interesting variations and surface dimples, much like the variations and textures in roses. Holding irregular pieces of polyester over a candle flame, I made multiple "petals" to later attach to the skirt and trim the shall. CAUTION: melted polyester is hot and may burn, please use caution when experimenting.
